Location:
This position is based offshore, though there may be a requirement to visit and work at other company locations or supplier’s premises as required.
The postholder must be able to attend our global headquarters in Aberdeen.

Reporting Line:
The Toolpusher will report directly to the Senior Toolpusher.
Role:
The Toolpusher will be responsible for the day to day operation on the installation and for the health and safety of all persons working under their authority. Supervises – Company
offshore personnel and sub-contractors personnel.
Key responsibilities:
The Toolpusher will be required to:
- Overall responsibility for all drilling rig and modules, and associated equipment.
- Supervision and performance of personnel working in the above areas.
- Physical condition of areas and equipment, planned inspections and relevant documentation.
- Liaise closely with their Senior Toolpusher on all key issues in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Supervise drilling operations, maintenance and other related activities on the installation ensuring that such operations are carried out efficiently and in compliance with Company operating procedures and Company Safety Policy.
- Ensure that health and safety at work and accident prevention are continuously brought to the attention of all employees by means of job supervision, instruction and training.
- Direct rig-up, rig-down, dismantling and/or moving of rig and auxiliary equipment, and supervise Driller and drilling crews in setting up and operating equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ensure good housekeeping and safe working conditions are maintained on the rig.
- Assist Senior Toolpusher by maintaining records for payroll data, control equipment and materials inventory for cost control, report of rig equipment transfers, current bit record data showing bits received, run and receipt of material, whilst on tour.
- Assist Senior Toolpusher by completing all required drilling and safety (or platform) reports in a timely manner, such as Drilling Report, Operational Plan, Engine Report,
Machinery Report, Pump Report and other records whilst on tour. - Evaluate all work to be carried out to the requirements of the Permit-to-Work system, initiate and write Permits-to-Work as necessary and ensure that all safety precautions are taken and only work is carried out stated in the Permit-to-Work.
- Ensure adequate recording and reporting of all problem events including accidents/incidents.
- Provide advice and guidance to Drillers on all operational matters as may be required.
- Responsible for the supervision of personnel engaged in activities in their area of responsibility or for which they have been allocated responsibility by their supervisor.
- Responsible for the performance management of the personnel under their authority to ensure standards of behaviour and performance expected by the Company.
- Monitor, supervise and coach any Service company or Vendor company representatives that may be involved in the operations on the rig.
- Stand-in for alternative work discipline as required.
- Complete any other reasonable tasks as delegated by Line Supervisor.
- Attend onshore or offshore meetings and additional training, as required.
Safety
- Familiarise themselves with the Company Safety Policy and to take all reasonable care to ensure the health and safety of themselves and persons likely to be affected by their acts or omissions, as required under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
- Ensure that the Company Safety Policy is fully implemented and adhered to by all persons under their authority.
- Ensure that all tasks supervised are adequately planned in advance, making use of client, pre-shift, TBT/TRIC, and is communicated to those involved. Ensure that first line supervisors are present at the TRIC/TBT.
- Comply with Waste Management Legislation, Manual Handling Regulations, COSHH, Risk Assessments and other relevant legislation.
- Ensure that all lifting operations are carried out in accordance with LOLER and Company lifting operations procedures.
- Ensure that planned safety inspections and audits on the installation are carried out in accordance with Company Safety Policy by themselves and those under their authority.
- Take immediate action to contain, eliminate or guard against actual and potential hazards to safety, health, plant and equipment that come to their attention in the course of their work.
- Provide adequate supervision for all employees (directly supervised).
- Ensure that all personnel under their control meet their assigned periodic health, safety tasks, targets and objectives.
- Ensure that all personnel under their authority properly use and care for their personal protective equipment and to verify from time to time that such equipment is in serviceable condition.
- Ensure that all equipment under their control complies with statutory requirements and is maintained at all times in a safe condition or is otherwise completely withdrawn from service.
- Carry out unsafe act auditing and plant inspection at least once during each offshore trip (delegate as appropriate).
- Ensure that all working places for personnel on the installation are always, so far as reasonably practical, safe within the meaning of the above Act.
- Ensure that all remedial work identified by planned inspections, incident investigations and by any other means is completed satisfactorily.
- Guide and direct personnel to comply with approved safety procedures in order to prevent incidents on the installation.
- Ensure that all employees under their authority are correctly instructed in the procedures to be adopted in the event of emergencies.
- Ensure that rig safety meetings, emergency and life saving drills are held in accordance with the Company Safety Policy, to attend such meetings whenever possible and to implement recommendations for remedial or other action.
- Authorised to carry out atmosphere testing and monitoring for entrance into confined spaces if deemed competent, carry out unsafe act auditing and plant inspection once during each offshore trip (delegate as appropriate).
- Monitor personnel under their supervision in their approach towards safety and provide proactive coaching whenever necessary.
- Review each task and identify what level of risk assessment is required.
- Ensure that all tasks undertaken within their area of responsibility are assessed to identify any hazard that may cause harm or damage.
- Ensure that control measures are implemented to reduce likelihood of a risk occurring to as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP).
- Reject or redefine the task if residual risk is not ALARP.
- Ensure that any potential improvements highlighted during the assessment process are reviewed and actioned/ implemented as appropriate.
- Communicate details of the risk assessment to the work team, allocating individual responsibilities for tasks and control measures.
- Ensure that all members of the team have the opportunity to identify further hazards and controls.
- Ensure that before work commences all members of the team are in agreement with the risk assessment and the proposed control measures.
- Ensure that any lessons learnt are captured to improve the task or risk assessment procedure
Financial
- Optimise operational performance, particularly the timely completion of incentive
operations.
Systems and Processes
- Direct the Drillers or other employees in the practical steps necessary to ensure that all working places are maintained in a safe condition and all working practices employed are safe.
People
- Competence Assessor responsibilities are to assess the personnel that they supervise. Assist the candidate to identify opportunities for assessment, the collection of supporting evidence for the assessment, explain any areas of the assessment process the candidate does not understand and provide them with clear and objective feedback following every assessment. Assessors will complete all the appropriate assessment documentation ensuring this is legible, authentic, current, sufficient, valid and reliable and meets the needs of Internal Verification, in a timely manner.
- Work in conjunction with Assessor to complete and identify any development activities.
- Participate in the Company Competence System and identify opportunities for assessment and supply evidence as per requirements to compliment the Assessor’s decision on competence for the various elements.
- Demonstrate the ability to meet the required Company standards of competence in a timely manner.
- Utilise, as and when appropriate, the Performance Appraisal Procedure as well as the Disciplinary Procedure for detailing performance issues including; high standards of work, career development and / or sub-standard performance.
- Manage and address effectively personnel issues affecting their crews, with the appropriate input and advice from the Rig Manager and Human Resources department.
- Participate in the performance evaluation of all agency personnel under their authority as required.
- Ensure that all employees under their authority have sufficient information and knowledge to carry out their job without endangering any persons, plant or equipment and are adequately trained and experienced for a particular task before they are instructed to carry it out.
Quality
- Ensure compliance to all relevant Company management systems and where applicable client procedures.

- Zero recordable incidents related to MODU drilling subsea operations.
- Well target costs are consistently ≤ target cost.
- All documented drilling Key Performance Indicators are met or bettered.
- Zero non-conformance reports, within drilling and Bop areas, exceed close out dates.
- Drilling crew competence average is ≥ 90%
