Location:

Well-Safe Solutions, Aberdeen, though there may be a requirement to visit and work at other company locations or supplier’s premises as required.

The postholder must be able to attend our global headquarters in Aberdeen.

Reporting Line:

The Lead Superintendent will report directly to the Well Engineering Director.

Role:

The Lead Superintendent will oversee day-to-day offshore execution, managing rig readiness, drilling contractor performance, and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards. Acts as the key link between onshore planning and offshore implementation.

Key responsibilities:
The Lead Superintendent will be required to:
  • Provide operational leadership to Superintendents managing well P&A campaigns.
  • Ensure lessons learned are captured and shared across all campaigns.
  • Drive performance optimization and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor safety performance and trends, intervening proactively where required to ensure a strong HSE culture.
  • Support incident investigations and corrective actions for safety and environmental events.
  • Maintain oversight of operational Major Accident Hazard management, ensuring controls are implemented and verified across operations.
  • Ensure operational compliance with all regulatory requirements and Well-Safe policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to share teams, equipment, logistics and services across campaigns to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.
  • Provide operational guidance and support to Superintendents on planning and execution challenges.
  • Support emergency response during critical incidents, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
  • Maintain strong communication with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure alignment.
  • Ensure drilling contractor performance, rig readiness, and maintenance standards are met to prevent downtime and maintain operational integrity.
  • Oversee reporting of operational performance and safety metrics to senior management.
Key outcomes:
  • Safe and efficient execution of all well P&A campaigns with zero harm to personnel and environmental protection.
  • MAH controls verified and maintained throughout operations, with proactive interventions to prevent incidents.
  • Drilling contractor performance and rig readiness consistently assured, minimizing downtime and operational risk. 
  • Continuous improvement through lessons learned, new techniques, and technology implementation.
  • Resource sharing and operational efficiencies achieved across campaigns without compromising safety.
  • Strong safety performance trends and transparent reporting delivered to senior management.

Knowledge & Competency:

Essential:

  • Proven leadership managing multiple well campaigns and teams.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of well P&A operations, well control, and hydrocarbon containment.
  • Competence in risk management, including Major Accident Hazard controls.
  • Experience in UK offshore regulatory compliance (Safety Case Regulations, OEUK Guidelines).
  • Hands-on experience with UKCS platform-based well operations.
  • Ability to drive performance improvement and implement lessons learned.
  • Skilled in resource planning and logistics for multi-campaign operations.
  • Incident response and investigation experience for safety and environmental events.
