Reporting Line:
The Senior Contracts and Commercial Lead will report directly to the Country Manager in KL.
Role:
The Senior Contracts and Commercial Lead will drive the full commercial lifecycle for Malaysia and APAC regional projects—leading competitive bids and proposals, negotiating subcontracts, and managing awarded contracts to protect margin and ensure compliance. This role combines strategic bid leadership with robust contract engineering and administration.
Key responsibilities:
The Senior Contracts and Commercial Lead will be required to:
Pre-Award (Bids & Proposals):
- Lead bid/no-bid decisions and develop pricing and win strategies.
- Follow WSS Commercial & Legal Work instructions, Procedures & Processes
- Manage tender submissions, internal kick off meetings, clarifications, and compliance with client requirements.
- Build cost/pricing models and risk registers, secure conditional subcontract agreements for bids
- Administrating the compilation of Proposals, Quotations and Tender response documentation, including collation and formatting to WSS marketing & branding standards
Award & Post-Award (Contracts):
- Draft and negotiate client contracts and subcontracts, ensuring risk-balanced terms.
- Oversee contract handover and mobilization readiness.
- Preparation and administration of contract documents, contract summaries, amendments and variations.
- Administer contracts, manage variations and claims, and ensure timely invoicing and cash collection, key negotiator in relation to contract dispute resolution
- Ensure adherence to the company’s procurement process and good SCM practice to optimize value
- Develop ITT packages, and prepare detailed quantitative and qualitative evaluation of tenders including assessment of contract risk
Key outcomes:
- Ensure that contracts implemented meet with the company’s commercial strategy, comply with the company’s contracting principles and the procurement procedure
- Delivery effective and efficient Supply Chain Management (SCM) support to the business and Clients
- Build and maintain effective relationships with key business partners, including contract, supplier and relationship management
- Regular and accurate reporting to the Contracts Manager and the Country Manage

Knowledge & Competency:
Essential:
- Degree in Engineering, Business, Commerce, or Law.
- 8–12+ years in upstream energy/services with experience in bids and contract management.
- Strong knowledge of rig tenders, integrated services, and subcontract negotiation.
- Familiarity with contract forms (Lump Sum, Unit Rate, T&M) and commercial constructs Team player and relationship builder who can focus on key performance measures
- Expert in negotiation and contract drafting
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams under tight deadlines.
- Must relate to the dynamics of a “start-up” company
Desired:
- Legal/QS/CIPS qualification
- Experience from both oil operator and service company perspective
- Knowledge of JU or semi sub rigs and wells (drilling/decommissioning)
