Well-Safe Solutions, Aberdeen, though there may be a requirement to visit and work at other company locations or supplier’s premises as required.
The postholder must be able to attend our global headquarters in Aberdeen.

Reporting Line:
The Lead Geoscientist will report directly to the Subsurface Manager.
Role:
The Lead Geoscientist will support subsurface work scopes to facilitate project delivery, from early planning through to execution. To represent Well-Safe as a subsurface technical authority for well life-cycle activities both in the UKCS and overseas.
Key responsibilities:
The Lead Geoscientist will be required to:
Technical Support
- Provide technical, assurance and project management support to a variety of subsurface services, including production reinstatement, late life optimisation, abandonment and re-use (e.g. CCS) projects.
- Provide support to the Subsurface Basis of Design (SSBoD) for Abandonment workflow including conducting or managing the following tasks:
- Data mining activities;
- Identification and quantification of permeable zones;
- Pressure evaluation to support the derivation of fit-for-purpose pore pressure/fracture strength predictions (geomechanics and reservoir engineering scopes, where required);
- Determination of zonal isolation requirements, calculation of minimum safe abandonment depth(s) (+ sensitivities), produce plumbing diagrams;
- Undertaking risk assessment, specifically subsurface risks and opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with Well Engineering disciplines to determine an executable and cost-efficient well abandonment strategy.
- Provide oversight of third-party contracts for specific subsurface studies.
Business Development Support
- Support opportunities to expand subsurface/engineering services.
- Engage with clients and stakeholders to develop tailored solutions.
- Contribute to proposals, tenders, and strategic growth initiatives.
Key outcomes:
- Support the Subsurface and Well Engineering teams
- Support the development of Well-Safe’s business strategy from a subsurface perspective
- Support Well-Safe to build a reputation as a subsurface technical authority for Well Decommissioning

Knowledge & Competency:
Essential:
- Degree qualified in a Geoscience or Engineering discipline.
- A minimum of ten years’ experience in oil and gas as a subsurface professional, with an excellent overview of the spectrum of subsurface disciplines.
- A minimum of five years’ experience in Well Decommissioning projects as a subsurface professional.
- Self-starter who can take initiative and work under their own supervision.
- Excellent organisational, time-management and communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with experience influencing multi-stakeholder projects.
Desired:
- Strong project management skills and able to deliver across multiple work fronts.
- Experience of working in a high performing team to deliver a range of technical outcomes.
- Experience of working with different Oil & Gas regulatory regimes (UKCS and overseas) with regards to Well Decommissioning.
