Well-Safe Solutions in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, though there may be the requirement to visit and work at other company locations on- or offshore, or client offices

Reporting Line:

The Well Engineer will report directly to the Country Manager (or Malaysia Wells Manager if available), with functional reporting to Wells Director in Aberdeen.

Role:

The Well Engineer will be responsible for the technical concept and detailed design, as well as project delivery of well life cycle – exploration, development, abandonment campaigns, providing planning and operational expertise such that all assigned activities can be performed safely, on budget and on time.

Key responsibilities:
The Well Engineer will be required to:
  • Work closely with clients to fully understand project requirements, possible scope covers Drilling, and/or Intervention & P&A, platform and subsea
  • Work with Country Manager for business development and marketing
  • Understand and comply with Malaysian regulatory technical requirements, i.e PETRONAS Governing Standards (previously known as PPGUA)
  • Collaborate with Well-Safe team and supply chain to deliver innovative solutions to well and decommissioning challenges.
  • Produce feasibility studies, develop concepts & Basis of Design.
  • Conduct risk assessments, identify mitigation plans and ensure implementation.
  • Carry out appraisal and implementation of new technologies and techniques.
  • Work with Contract team to set up contracting arrangements & procurement
  • Compile information for regulatory permits & well examination.
  • Manage interfaces with third parties to ensure a One Team approach.
  • Ensure planned activities comply with the Well-Safe Well Management System
  • Prepare time and cost estimates for all design options.
  • Compile detailed programmes, supported by relevant specialists, incorporating lessons learned from previous projects and industry experience.
  • Provide onshore technical support to Well Superintendent
  • Carry out after action and post well reviews & capture lessons learned.
  • As and when required, undertake such duties on an on-call basis as the company may require to cover out of hours operations and emergency response incidents.
Key outcomes:
  • Ability to support Well Safe UK and APAC Projects which might cover decommissioning (UK & SEA) and exploration and development (APAC)

Knowledge & Competency:

Essential:

  • Self-starter who can take initiative and work under their own supervision
  • Excellent organisational, time-management and communication skills
  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience in Well Engineering (combination of exploration, development, intervention and/or P&A)
  • Relevant honours engineering degree, and/or equivalent industry experience
  • Onshore, operator facing or operator-based experience
  • Knowledge of industry standards and guidelines

Desired:

  • Previous offshore experience in variety of well operations including well services, completions or drilling
  • Previous P&A campaign experience
  • HWU, Jackup and/or Subsea completions experience
