Location:

Well-Safe Solutions, Aberdeen, though there may be a requirement to visit and work at other company locations or supplier’s premises as required.

The position may be required to travel offshore in support of incident investigations, regulatory inspections and leadership engagement visits.

Reporting Line:

The Environmental Specialist will report directly to the HSE Manager, with a functional reporting line to the Project Manager for project safety and environment advice delivery.

Role:

The Environmental Specialist is responsible for the co-ordination and provision of day-to-day and medium-term environmental support for well decommissioning projects and operations.

Key Responsibilities:
The Environmental Specialist will be required to:
  • Manage all safety and environmental related Permits, Licenses, Applications, Notification and Consents (PLANC) required for Well-Safe projects and well decommissioning activities
  • Provide company support in relation to environmental aspects associated with our business needs
  • Work across all well operations activities and provide support to the project team and offshore teams to improve environmental performance
  • Manage subcontractors involved in the delivery of PLANC requirements
  • Interface with key stakeholders (including statutory authorities and key consultees to support consent and license creation and submission)
  • Manage consultancies for delivery of studies, modelling and surveys to support environmental impact assessments
  • Implementing and maintaining ISO14001 accreditation
  • Develop environmental targets in collaboration with wider WSS business
Key Outcomes:
  • Compliance with company management system, any contractual obligations related to the offshore well abandonment activity and PLANC reporting requirements for wells activities
  • Close alignment on environmental considerations between Well-Safe’s well engineering team, operations team and assurance team
  • Engaging all stakeholders in a project on implementation of relevant standards and management systems to ensure safe work practices and conditions are achieved
  • Developing strong regulatory relationships in support of our well decommissioning activities
  • Upfront PLANC preparation and identification and leading all permits, consents, notifications, and consents
  • Behavioural safety and control of work emphasis around key risk activities
  • Collation and reporting of environmental data and performance for regulatory and corporate reporting, P&A Club manager and client
  • Identify trends and propose improvements and solutions
  • Providing environmental training and information to both on- and offshore staff
  • Ensuring company procedures are in place, maintained and applied across all activities to allow all relevant legislation to be complied with; and support the maintenance of a certified Safety and Environmental Management System
  • Managing waste, radioactive substances and sampling & analysis requirements for well operations activities
  • Providing guidance on environmental sensitivities, environmental impacts and the fate of emissions and discharges from Well-Safe activities to enable well operations activities to ensure and demonstrate that Well-Safe is an industry leader in minimising environmental impact of decommissioning activities.

Ability to lead, motivate, direct and develop disciplined staff and facilitate delivery via other functional and operations staff · The incumbent is responsible for the efficient use of their personal time to ensure all tasks are achieved within allocated project plan timelines.

Knowledge & Competency:

Essential:

  • Must be a self-starter, be practical and have ability to communicate effectively and interact proactively with the rig and with company and client management teams to achieve the best results
  • Understanding of Major Accident Hazard Risk Assessment to identify environmental consequences associated with MA and if potential environmental consequence could result in significant pollution/MEI
  • Environmental incident investigation experience
  • Experience of decommissioning activities and regulatory framework for well abandonment operations
  • Valid OEUK Medical and BOSIET/FOET
  • Membership of recognised body e.g. IEMA
  • Recognised environmental-related qualification
  • Minimum of five years oil and gas and related environmental experience
  • Well operations and environmental permitting experience

Desired:

  • Experience training personnel one-on-one or in group environments
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions with minimal direction
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple and conflicting priorities
