Reporting Line:

The Senior Contracts Engineer will report directly to the Contracts Manager.

Role:

To provide comprehensive contracts support to the business and its clients. The postholder will be involved in all aspects of client contract management, subcontracts administration, performance measurement and delivery of customer value.

Key responsibilities:
The Senior Contracts Engineer will be required to:

Fully understand the client contract terms and conditions (T&Cs), scope of work, renumeration and administration instructions. They will communicate accordingly and provide guidance to project management during contract delivery through to close out.

Client Contracts :

    • Manage prime contract administration.
    • Work with the project team to ensure contract change is identified on a timely basis. Request for amendment and variations raised with client, negotiated and processed through to receipt of an approved amendment
    • KPI measurement/tracking
    • Participate in internal and external audits as required
    • Prepare client correspondence
    • Interface with Finance team to ensure project billings are up to date and resolve any issues (client funding, milestone deliverables, disputes)

Subcontracts :

    • Develop subcontracting strategies for specific well abandonment programmes and projects
    • Develop ITT packages, RFQs and prepare detailed quantitative and qualitative evaluation of tenders (including assessment of contract risk)
    • Lead the tendering, evaluation and negotiation process through to award of well abandonment, logistics and support services contracts
    • Prepare recommendations to award for client approval/management as required
    • Ensure contractual and commercial negotiations undertaken in accordance with contracting principles, ensuring risk mitigation and commercial optimisation
    • Development and management of contract plans to ensure effective management of subcontractor to deliver overall project performance targets
    • Work with stakeholders to ensure key supplier performance and relationship management including frequent performance feedback sessions, agreeing KPIs, implementing lessons learned and continuous improvement
    • Actively champion partnership arrangements with major suppliers by questioning, appraising, evaluating and improving the activities of the partnership
    • Take a lead role in identifying and developing opportunities to create value, cost reductions and improve service delivery across the business through effective contract management techniques
    • Preparation and administration of contract documents, contract summaries, amendments and variations
    • Provide advice and guidance to management on contracts management
    • Act as a key negotiator in dispute resolution
    • Work with project teams to define a clear financial understanding in terms of costs, accruals, commitments, VO’s and uncertainty, making relevant recommendations
    • Develop strategies for continuous improvement, value creation and cost reduction opportunities
Key outcomes:
  • Ensure that contracts implemented meet with the company’s commercial strategy
  • Ensure client contract variations and amendments are identified, issued on a timely basis to client and contract VO/Amendments received from client
  • Deliver effective and efficient contracts support to the business and Clients
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with key business partners, including client, subcontractor/supplier and relationship management
  • Regular and accurate reporting to the Contracts Manager
  • Provide guidance and support to more junior contract team members

Knowledge & Competency:

Essential:

  • 10+ years’ experience in oil and gas contracting with a proven track record of value delivery
  • Client contract management experience
  • Management of client variations and contract amendments.
  • Must be able to derive added value from suppliers, contain procurement costs and mitigate exposure to risk
  • Strong interpersonal skills and self-starter
  • Team player and relationship builder who can focus on key performance measures
  • Strong negotiator with good influencing and project management skills
  • Outstanding communicator (ability to engage at all levels)
  • Tactful, commercially astute with natural drive and energy

Desired:

  • Legal/QS/CIPS qualification
  • Experience from both oil operator and service company perspective
  • Knowledge of wells and, in particular, well abandonment requirements
