Reporting Line:
The Category Lead will report directly to the Contracts Manager.
Role:
The Category Lead will be responsible for implementing best practices within Procure to Pay (P2P) framework, employing strategic supplier development, implementing the Category Management approach in contracts and procurement planning, category reviews and supplier relationship management.
Key responsibilities:
The Category Lead will have their own portfolio of work to manage and on top of this provide assistance to the Contracts Manager across a range of activities such as:
- Global category management accountability for Rig / Asset Category, focusing on cost savings, efficiency and risk, collaborating to manage all category activities in compliance with Well-Safe’s contracts and procurement process.
- Develop and implement Category strategy to provide external supply to the correct quality and on-time, minimising risk to Well-Safe and Well-Safe’s clients by ensuring optimum price.
- Manage key supplier performance including quality, delivery and total cost, and drive corrective actions as required.
- Identify areas of risk within the Category, implement appropriate mitigation measures.
- Collaborate with regional teams and stakeholders to align category strategies with business objectives.
- Analyse historical spending patterns and procurement data for the Category, identifying cost-savings opportunities, more favourable contractual arrangements and optimise Well-Safe’s contract and procurement strategies; leverage value for the company.
- Manage and support the performance and development of the Contracts Team supporting the Category; guide, motivate and develop the Team, promoting best practices in contracts and procurement and conflict resolution.
- Support the Team in contracts and procurement exercises including large Tender activities and contractor selection processes ensuring compliance with all Well-Safe’s contracts and procurement processes and procedures.
- Work alongside HSQE department to ensure suppliers and service providers are compliant.
- Resolve non-conformance issues, disputes and claims in a timely manner to minimize Well-Safe’s exposure.
- Raise requested Purchase Orders with approved suppliers, ensuring compliance with business authority approval process (DOA).
- Review and sign-off on Annual Asset Procurement Plans
- Produce status reports for the Contracts Manager.
- Deputise for the Contracts Manager, as required.
- Support the development and deployment of procurement policies and processes, and ensure they are followed, with reference to ethical standards.
- Work with Asset buyers and Supply Chain Manager encouraging competitive product sourcing and providing support in contract negotiations to deliver cost savings, safeguarding Well-Safe’s financial integrity.
- Responsible for planning, organising and chairing regular Performance Reviews with Suppliers.

- Ensure that contracts undertaken meet with the Well-Safe’s commercial strategy, Core Values, and DE&I
- Deliver effective and efficient contracting policies and processes
- Build and maintain effective relationships with key business stakeholders and suppliers
- Regular and accurate reporting to the Contracts Manager
- Ensure the team has clear direction, focus, targets and accountability

Knowledge & Competency:
Essential:
- Degree qualified
- Minimum 10+ years’ experience in oil and gas contracting
- Proven track record of value delivery in Category Management
- Experience from oil operator and/or service company perspective with international experience
- Must be able to derive added value from suppliers, contain procurement costs and mitigate exposure to risk
- Strong interpersonal skills and capacity for motivation, innovation and team building
- Team player and relationship builder who can focus on key performance measures
- Strong negotiator with good influencing and project management skills
- Outstanding communicator (ability to engage at all levels)
- Tactful, commercially astute with natural drive and energy
- Must relate to the dynamics of a “Tier 1” contractor
Desired:
- Legal/QS/CIPS qualification
- Knowledge of well abandonment requirements
