Reporting Line:
The Senior Contracts Engineer will report directly to the Contracts Manager.
Role:
The Senior Contracts Engineer will provide comprehensive Supply Chain support to the business, including Well-Safe’s Clients. Client contract review, negotiation and close-out to execution. Involved in all aspects of the contracting process from strategy setting, through to contract award, and contract
management. Involved in all aspects of contract management and contractor performance and delivering customer value.
Key responsibilities:
The Senior Contracts Engineer will be required to:
- Client contract review, negotiation, close-out to execution and preparation of Board Approval documentation and Contract Summary and Handover documentation through to approval.
- Liaise with the Commercial Team to review and respond to contractual qualifications for Client Tenders and provide input into any contractual / subcontract management type information requests for input into Well-Safe’s client proposals.
- Work with key stakeholders to develop strategies for specific abandonment programmes
- Development and management of contract plans
- Lead the tendering, evaluation and negotiation process in relation to the award of well abandonment, logistics and supporting services contracts and make recommendations to management and Clients on contractor selection and contract award
- Develop ITT packages, and prepare detailed quantitative and qualitative evaluation of tenders including assessment of contract risk
- Direct contractual and commercial negotiations in accordance with contracting principles, ensuring risk mitigation and commercial optimisation
- Ensure effective management of contractors for abandonment projects in all stages of the project life cycle and deliver the overall project performance targets
- Responsible for key supplier performance and relationship management including frequent performance feedback sessions, agreeing KPI’s, implementing lessons learned and continuous improvement
- Actively champion partnership arrangements with major suppliers by questioning, appraising, evaluating and improving the activities of the partnership
- Take a lead role in identifying and developing opportunities to create value, cost reductions and improve service delivery across the business through effective contract management techniques
- Preparation and administration of contract documents, contract summaries, amendments and variations
- Provide advice and guidance to management on contracting and other supply chain matters
- Act as a key negotiator in relation to contract dispute resolution
- Work with the well engineering team to define a clear financial understanding in terms of costs, accruals, commitments, VO’s and uncertainty
- Work with materials controllers to ensure that all appropriate services and supplies are in place for the successful execution of the work
- Develop strategies for continuous improvement, value creation and cost reduction opportunities
Key outcomes:
- Ensure that contracts implemented meet with the company’s commercial strategy
- Delivery effective and efficient Supply Chain Management (SCM) support to the business and Clients
- Build and maintain effective relationships with key business partners, including contract, supplier and relationship management
- Regular and accurate reporting to the Contracts Manager

Knowledge & Competency:
Essential:
- Experience in oil and gas contracting with a proven track record of value delivery in SCM
- Must be able to derive added value from suppliers, contain procurement costs and mitigate exposure to risk
- Strong interpersonal skills and self-starter
- Team player and relationship builder who can focus on key performance measures
- Strong negotiator with good influencing and project management skills
- Outstanding communicator (ability to engage at all levels)
- Tactful, commercially astute with natural drive and energy
- Must relate to the dynamics of a “start-up” company
Desired:
- Legal/QS/CIPS qualification
- Experience from both oil operator and service company perspective
- Knowledge of wells and, in particular, well abandonment requirements
